Fire Sprinkler Systems

Sprinkler systems are essentially a series of water pipes which are supplied by a reliable water supply. A fire sprinkler is the part of a fire sprinkler system that discharges water when the effects of a fire have been detected, such as when a predetermined temperature has been reached. However a sprinkler system can only be as effective as the water supply it is connected to, so organisations should not only test that sprinkler systems are in working order but that their water supply and systems are also reliable.

Fire sprinklers are most effective during the fire's initial flame growth stage. A properly selected sprinkler will detect the fire's heat, initiate alarm and begin suppression within moments after flames appear. In most instances sprinklers will control fire advancement within a few minutes of their activation. This will in turn result in significantly less damage than otherwise would happen without sprinklers.

Most sprinkler systems also include an alarm to alert occupants and emergency forces when sprinkler activation (fire) occurs.

Sprinkler Control Valves

Control valves should be kept open at all times. Multiphase fits valve tamper switches which are continuously supervised via an automatic fire alarm system. These switches will signal the control panel in times of trouble.

Sprinkler Heads

Automatic sprinkler systems are one of the safest means of fire protection. They work by aiming water directly onto a fire which controls the fire's spread. Automatic fire sprinklers utilizing frangible bulbs follow a standardized color coding convention indicating their operating temperature. Activation temperatures correspond to the type of hazard against which the sprinkler system protects.
